Origin: Texas, Mexico (Hidalgo)

Growth Habits: Solitary or clumping, spherical, green cactus, up to 5 inches in diameter (12 cm)

Watering Needs: Moderate water. Keep dry in winter.

Propagation: Seeds, division

Cultural Practices:
Fertilize every 2 weeks with diluted high potassium fertilizer when the plant is in bud.

Blooming Habits:
The Mammillaria longimamma produces bright yellow flowers, 2.5 inches in diameter, in summer.

Fruiting Habits:
Large 2.5 inches (6 cm) bright yellow flowers.

 A cactus with long tubercles and large citrus scented flowers. Native to the Hidalgo state of Mexico, near Venados.

 

Reported to contain triterpenes, and alkaloids similar to epinephrine. Also reported to contain unspecified alkaloids.
